Inscribed on the frame at the back Philip, Earl of Chesterfield, Gosset fecit. 1745.
100 x 78 mm.
This wax relief is very obviously an adaptation based on the medallion depicted below -
This might also suggest a close link between Dassier and the Gosset family.
Medallion of Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl of Chesterfield
by Jaques Antoine Dassier, dated on the reverse 1743.
Bronze 55 mm.

Marble bust of Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl of Chesterfield.
Louis Francois Roubiliac.
1745
Purchased by the National Portrait Gallery in 1985.
NPG says this
bust of Lord Chesterfield is signed and dated 1745, ad vivum (from
the life). Sittings must have taken place after Chesterfield's return from his
diplomatic mission to The Hague (May 1745) and before his departure to take up
office as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland (July 1745).
