Restoration.
The statue shown at the premises of Messrs Taylor Pierce of New Cross.
The statue now having been thorougly washed shows the acretion of sulphation on the surface.
This is almost certainly caused by prolonged exposure to the polluted air of Central London (London smog) caused by the burning of coal for domestic heating and transport and industrial use before the introduction of smokeless zones.
The leg and foot of the boy have become detached - this is probably the result of firing rather than damage caused by being moved - the repair probably took place at the manufactory.
There are two obvious small firing cracks of about 4 inches on the base on the back.
